Jihad Analytics published a report on 8 April 2022 revealing that Nigeria has recorded
a total of 162 Islamic State (ISWAP) operations since January 2022 (as reported by Sahara Reporters on 8 April 2022). However, there have been other perpetrators of numerous attacks. There follows a small selection from the first half of April 2022:
- 10 April 2022 / Plateau State: In Kanam LGA four villages were attacked by "˜unknown armed groups". Villagers fled when the militants started shooting sporadically and burning down properties. It was not reported how many had been killed. (Source: The Guardian NG, 11 April 2022)

Frans Veerman, Managing Director of World Watch Research comments: "Nigeria is in a state of chaos. Many major international media outlets fail to recognize that a large part of the violence - particularly, but not exclusively targeting Christians - is being perpetrated by Fulani militants in constant low-key attacks on communities, as the reports above show. While international media attention has often been placed on the activities of Boko Haram/ISWAP (together with their links to the wider Islamic State group), destructive action carried out by Fulani militants has been much less reported. Even the respected Global Terrorist Index 2022 apparently "˜
overlooked" the activities of Fulani militants (WWR, 29 March 2022). There is a need for greater international pressure to be put on the Buhari government to protect all citizens, irrespective of their religious background, but if the Fulani attacks are largely ignored, such pressure will be weak and ineffective."
