According to Life Site News reporting on 30 September 2019, radical feminists tried to set fire to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico during a rally organized to promote the legalization of abortion. They also sprayed offensive graffiti on the cathedral walls. Police, Catholic groups and firefighters worked together to prevent the spread of further violence and fire. Arsonists also set fire to the entrance of the national Chamber of Commerce and other government offices in the city center. Rossana Ramirez, persecution analyst at World Watch Research, comments: "Hundreds of Mexicans took to the streets in support of Global Action Day for Access to Legal and Safe Abortion. Many also shouted slogans offensive to Christians. Some were masked, dressed in black and many wore the green bandanas that have become the symbol of pro-abortion activists throughout Latin America. The Roman Catholic Church in particular seeks to protect the sanctity of life and opposes pro-abortion views regarding women's rights. As a result, pressure groups often focus on Catholic targets for carrying out acts of vandalism and intimidation. However, Christian symbols in general may also be attacked."
